PRIMARY PROGRAM
Where Curiosity, Independence & Confidence Grow
3–6 years
The Primary years are a special time when children are developing a deep desire to understand the world around them. At Goldberg Montessori School, our Primary classrooms provide a carefully prepared environment where children can explore, concentrate, make choices, and develop a lifelong love of learning.
The Montessori Classroom
Our classrooms are calm, purposeful, and designed around the needs of the developing child. Children work independently or in small groups with carefully chosen Montessori materials that introduce concepts through hands-on experiences.
Children learn to choose their work, use materials carefully, complete an activity, and return it to its place - developing concentration, coordination, and independence along the way.
Learning Through Discovery
The Primary curriculum encompasses the essential areas of Montessori learning:
Practical Life — building independence, coordination, concentration, and responsibility.
Sensorial — exploring and understanding the world through the senses.
Language — developing communication, literacy, vocabulary, and a love of language.
Mathematics — building mathematical understanding through concrete, hands-on materials before moving toward abstraction.
Culture & the World Around Us — encouraging curiosity, observation, discovery, and an appreciation for the world.
Following the Child
Our teachers carefully observe each child and introduce lessons and experiences according to their individual readiness and interests.
Montessori recognizes that children do not all learn at the same pace. By trusting the child and providing the right environment, children develop confidence in their own abilities and become active participants in their learning.
Judaic Studies
Jewish learning is an integral part of the Primary experience at GMS. Through age-appropriate stories, traditions, holidays, songs, Hebrew language experiences, and Jewish values, children develop a meaningful connection to their Jewish heritage and community.
Judaic Studies is woven into the children's experience throughout the year, giving them opportunities to explore Jewish traditions and values while connecting what they learn to their everyday lives.
As children grow, they develop an understanding that Jewish learning is not simply something they study - it is something they can experience, celebrate, and carry with them.
Grace, Courtesy & Community
Academic learning is only part of the Primary experience. Children are also learning how to care for themselves, one another, and their environment.
Through daily interactions, children practice respect, kindness, responsibility, problem-solving, and self-discipline.
Preparing Children for the Future
Our goal is to nurture children who are confident, capable, curious, and compassionate—children who know how to think, explore, solve problems, and approach new experiences with confidence.
At GMS, we honor the path of each child and nurture a lifelong love of learning.
