The story of Goldberg Montessori School and Congregation Brith Shalom is one of compassion, resilience, and a shared commitment to children and families. What began during a challenging time for GMS has grown into an enduring relationship that continues to connect our two Jewish communities.

In May 2015, Houston experienced devastating Memorial Day floods that profoundly affected our GMS community. The Goldberg Montessori School building sustained significant damage, and much of the school’s classroom materials and contents were lost. After nearly four decades in its home, GMS faced the difficult task of finding a temporary space where our children could continue learning.

The answer came through the generosity of Congregation Brith Shalom.

In the weeks following the flood, Congregation Brith Shalom welcomed GMS and provided classroom space, allowing the school to continue serving its students and families. With this support, GMS was able to continue its Montessori and Judaic programming in a safe and welcoming environment. The experience was also a powerful expression of Klal Yisrael - the Jewish value of coming together to support one another in times of need.

The flood reminded us of the strength that comes from coming together. Families, educators, volunteers, and Jewish organizations throughout Houston helped GMS move forward, demonstrating the importance of connection and collective support.

Today, GMS and Congregation Brith Shalom share a campus and a relationship that has grown far beyond the circumstances that first brought us together. We are deeply grateful to Congregation Brith Shalom for the generosity extended to GMS during a time of great need and for the continued connection between our two communities.

A partnership that continues to grow
The relationship between Goldberg Montessori School and Congregation Brith Shalom continues to create meaningful opportunities for both communities.

As part of this relationship, families who are members of Congregation Brith Shalom are eligible for special tuition rates at GMS. This benefit provides Brith Shalom member families with an opportunity to enroll their children at GMS while strengthening the connection between two organizations that share a commitment to Jewish values, community, and the education of children.

Sharing a campus allows GMS and Congregation Brith Shalom to remain connected in meaningful ways while each continues its own mission and programs. We are grateful for the many ways our communities come together and for the enduring relationship that began during a difficult chapter in GMS’s history.
